This RSC production opened at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, on the 7th September 1989. Ultz’s designs were based on Caird’s Swedish production that played at Klarateatern in Stockholm in 1984.
The production played in repertoire for the rest of the Stratford season and transferred to the Barbican Theatre in London, where it opened on 11th April 1990.
